Anxiety can absolutely destroy your life. Whether it’s mild, moderate, or god forbid, severe anxiety, it takes a massive toll.
Having anxiety makes it difficult to pick up girls, to build a social circle, to enjoy your life, and to be happy…so you want to eliminate it as soon as possible.
There’s a number of different routes you can take, from anti-depressants to lifestyle changes like working out and meditating, but one simple, effective, and almost instant cure is to take supplements that act on your neurotransmitters.
I’ve tried every single one of these supplements for anxiety, and I believe that they will work for 99% of you guys. That being said, some people respond better to certain ones.
You’ll ultimately have to experiment and try these out for yourself; but if you do so in conjunction with taking cold showers, meditating, and exercising regularly, you can expect to eliminate your anxiety to almost zero.
New Mood by Onnit
I figure that I’ll start out with the one I’ve been using for many years, called New Mood (by Onnit). It’s by far the best supplement for anxiety.
New Mood is made by Onnit, the same company that creates Alpha Brain, which is one of the best nootropics on the market right now.
Personally, it’s my favorite supplement for combating anxiety, because it has a ton of ingredients. Let’s take a closer look at them, though.
New Mood Ingredients
New Mood, Alpha Brain’s more “relaxation-focused” cousin, is packed with powerful, clinically proven ingredients, shown to reduce anxiety.
Here are some of the ingredients in New Mood:
- 5-HTP
- Magnesium
- Tryptophan
- Valerian Root Extract
- …and more
All of these work in conjunction to not only eliminate anxiety, but also leave you with a nice euphoria…and best of all? It’s not chemically addictive.
I’ve personally taken New Mood multiple occasions, and what I like best is you can use it as a sleep aid, or as an anti-anxiety supplement.
The 5-HTP is a precursor to serotonin, which makes you happy, and as I’ve said before, is one of the best nootropics for anxiety.
The L-Tryptophan is converted into glycine by the body, which slows down the central nervous system (AKA stops anxiety). The Valerian and Chamomile extracts? They’re powerful herbs that eliminate anxiety.
What’s interesting about this one is the 5-HTP, however. 5-HTP is a powerful precursor to serotonin, correlated with euphoria.
In other words, it’s basically a building block that your body uses to NATURALLY create more serotonin, the happy chemical.
New Mood is my go-to recommendation for anxiety, because it’s backed by a ton of research and clinically proven ingredients, so you know they work.
L-Theanine For Anxiety
L-Theanine, an extract from green tea, is another great nootropic that you can use to not only reduce anxiety, but also focus better.
In fact, studies have consistently found that L-Theanine can be used to naturally reduce anxiety, improve focus, and help you relax.
One study, conducted by the Unilever Food and Health Research Institute in the Netherlands, concluded the following:
“There was a greater increase in alpha activity across time in the L-theanine condition (relative to placebo (p+0.05). A second study replicated this effect in participants engaged in passive activity. These data indicate that L-theanine, at realistic dietary levels, has a significant effect on the general state of mental alertness or arousal. Furthermore, alpha activity is known to play an important role in critical aspects of attention, and further research is therefore focussed on understanding the effect of L-theanine on attentional processes.”
In layman’s terms, this means that taking L-Theanine is linked to higher levels of “alpha frequency” brain activity.
As I covered in my article on binaural beats, these brain frequencies are linked to a relaxed, calm state of focus, that high achievers love.
The best part too, is that L-Theanine is all natural. It’s what gives green tea its calming effect, so you’re not putting any weird chemicals in your body.
Personally, I prefer the Now Supplements brand, because they’re 3rd party tested for purity, but you can buy whatever brand you want, though.
L-Theanine Dosage
Personally, I find that just 200mg of L-Theanine is enough to help me relax, but I sometimes take more if I’m combining it with .
Studies have shown that combining stimulants with L-Theanine does a great job at taking the “edge” off the stimulants, for laser focus.
The ideal dosage is 200mg of L-Theanine for every cup of coffee you consume, which equates to roughly 100mg of caffeine.
So, if you drink two cups of coffee each day, add one pill of L-Theanine with each cup of coffee, for laser focus, without the anxiety or side effects.
GABA For Anxiety
Another one of the best natural supplements for anxiety is a called gamma-Aminobutyric acid, or GABA for short.
GABA is a critical neurotransmitter that tells your brain to “slow down,” so if you have a lot of anxious thoughts, GABA will probably help a lot.
The best part is it’s dirt cheap, too. You can literally get a 3-month supply on Amazon for just $6.99 which is incredible.
I personally take GABA every single day, but I don’t take it all at once. I start by taking 250mg in the morning, and re-dose every few hours or so.
When I’m on GABA in conjunction with 5-HTP, I find that my anxiety levels are at an all time low. I’m relaxed, focused, and mentally clear.
Just like L-Theanine, GABA is clinically proven, too. Take a look at what this study, cited by 336 other studies, had to say about it:
“Placebo group showed marked decrease of their IgA levels, while GABA group showed significantly higher levels. In conclusion, GABA could work effectively as a natural relaxant and its effects could be seen within 1 hour of its administration to induce relaxation and diminish anxiety. Moreover, GABA administration could enhance immunity under stress conditions.”
In other words, taking GABA literally makes you more relaxed in under an hour. That’s faster than any antidepressant I know of.
…and while GABA isn’t as strong as something like Xanax or Klonopin, it’s far less addictive, and helps your body NATURALLY stay calm.
Just like my L-Theanine, I get my GABA from Now Supplements, because they’re all 3rd party tested for purity. Do what you want, though.
GABA Dosage
Again, I take GABA every single day, without fail. I find that starting my morning with a small dosage of 250mg works wonders.
Some people prefer to take more however, with dosages as high as 1.5 grams. Personally, I recommend you start out with 500mg to see.
From here, you can re-dose every few hours, until you find your ideal GABA dosage. For me, it’s about two grams, but spaced throughout the day.
Kratom for Anxiety
I wasn’t going to recommend Kratom in this article, because I’m in the middle of testing out some different sources, but it’s just so damn good at squelching anxiety that I figure I’ll give it a shout out.
Kratom came seemingly out of nowhere, but in the past 2 years it’s exploded into being one of the most popular anti-anxiety and mood-boosting supplements on the market.
It hails from the region of Southeast Asia—Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, and the like. It’s a leaf that’s ground up into powder, mixed into water, and consumed by the locals of said countries. Technically that’s illegal here in the USA, but you can buy it for “research purposes,” of course.
Personally, when I use kratom, I find it so much easier to get work done. My mood is way better, I suffer from nearly zero depression, and best of all, I’m calm and relaxed. I typically use 3-5 grams at once, but depending on the strain, it can vary.
There’s three strains of Kratom—slow, moderate, and fast. Personally, I’m a big fan of slow and medium strains, because they have the biggest effect on your mood. I’m already a fairly high-energy person, so I don’t need a fast strain of kratom to give me more energy.
Regardless, is you’re looking for something to eliminate anxiety and simultaneously give you a nice euphoria, Kratom is a great bet.
One thing to watch out for is that it does tend to make you sleepy, so I wouldn’t take it on the same days you’re going to the gym.
But, if you’re doing any sort of repetitive, menial work, or even more intellectually challenging work (like blogging), Kratom is a great ally.
Summary
All in all, these supplements will have you on cloud 9, completely free of anxiety. You can stack them together too, for added effect.
They’re some of the best supplements for anxiety that I know of, and coming from someone who’s tested over $10,000 worth of supplements, that’s saying something.
In my opinion, simply taking 5-HTP and GABA is enough to improve most peoples’ moods significantly. I take these everyday.
