In my experience, some of the best men’s colognes are pretty inexpensive. Sure, there’s plenty of great “designer” colognes that will cost you a whopping $500 per bottle. But in all honesty, you don’t need to shell out $500 per bottle to get some good cologne (I had to learn this the hard way).
In fact, you don’t even need to shell out $50 for a bottle. Sure, there’s some great colognes that will run you $50-100 per bottle, but why spend that much money when you can spend $3/month on an equally effective cologne?
Here’s my top 3 best men’s colognes (from experience) for less than $3 a month.
1. Cool Water by Davidoff
“Haha, my dad has an old bottle of this stuff from the 90’s in our house…he always wears it,” she said. “Oh. Well maybe I should put some on then,” I said with a sly grin. “SHUT UP! I can’t believe you just said that!” she said, with a giant smile on her face.
Then, before we fucked for the second time, she spritzed a bit on my chest. “Shut up!” she said. I just looked at her and thought it was hilarious.
Okay, so maybe the girl had some daddy issues, but regardless—I get tons of girls telling me I smell really good when I’m wearing cool water.
In fact, I’d even go so far as to say that it’s one of the best men’s colognes out there. Why? Well, aside from tons of women complementing me when I’m wearing it, it’s also not too overpowering, it’s a very refreshing fragrance, and best of all, it’s dirt cheap. One bottle that will last you a YEAR literally only costs $23.36 on Amazon. That’s like $2 a month. Pretty inexpensive.
I first heard about this cologne from a buddy back in high school. He told me that all the girls kept complementing on this cologne, and that nobody else knew about it. Why? I don’t know. Interestingly enough, after doing some research, I found out that Cool Water was extremely popular in the 90’s, but fell off shortly after.
Probably because since everyone was wearing it, guys started buying other colognes to stand out. Regardless, I’d put this at the top of my list for “best men’s colognes,” due to its cool, refreshing scent, the fact that a ton of girls like it, and the fact that it’s very inexpensive. Personally, I would recommend wearing Cool Water in any setting, but particularly during the summer/spring months.
It has a really nice crisp, fresh smell that definitely makes it one of the best men’s colognes out there. But you have to wear it at the right time, and for me, personally, I think that the warm air of spring and summer accentuates this type of fragrance. But hey, that’s just me. Wear it whenever the fuck you want.
2. Very Sexy For Him by Victoria’s Secret
“You smell really good,” she said. “Yeah, I know,” I replied. “NO—like REALLY good,” she said eagerly.
Out of all the colognes I’ve tried, this one has gotten the most complements.
In my opinion, this is probably one of the best men’s colognes, if not THE best men’s cologne out there. Why? It’s simple, really. Because so many god damn girls love the way it smells. Yup. It’s really that simple. When I go to the club, I get complements. When I pull a girl, I get complements. When I sit next to a girl in public, I get complements.
I pretty much get complements every where I go when I’m wearing this cologne. Despite this being a little bit more expensive than the first, it’s still one of the best men’s colognes out there—and it’s still dirt cheap; one bottle of this stuff lasted me about 14 months. That works out to roughly $2.60 per month. Not bad for such an effective cologne.
Personally, I don’t like the smell of this one as much as Cool Water, but it seems that girls prefer this one more. Very Sexy For Him 2 is a lot lighter, and less “crisp,” if that makes sense. It smells more smooth and fruity, whereas Cool Water has more of a crisp, clean, and fresh smell.
But, you don’t get a cologne for what you think smells the best…you get a cologne based off of what women think smells the best—and women clearly think that this smells the best.
I would personally recommend only wearing this cologne in more sexually charged environments. It’s actually a little bit TOO sexual for the work place. Yeah, I’m serious. The stuff literally smells like sex to women, so I wouldn’t recommend wearing it at your work place unless you intend on dealing with some potential drama.
3. Roadster by Cartier
“Haha—do you know why I jumped you earlier?” she asked. “Yeah,” I said. “Why’s that?” she asked. “Because I’m sexy as fuck, obviously,” I said half jokingly. “Haha, well yeah…but you just smelled so good..I don’t know, I felt like I had to get closer.”
Me and this girl had been taking a road trip, and apparently being stuck in the car with me wearing this cologne was too much for her to handle. I noticed it the second that I went up to give her a hug at her place; she held onto the hug for a little bit longer than usual, and took a giant inhale. “Wow, you smell good!” she said in an exuberant tone.
Shortly after departing for our road trip, as I alluded to above, she basically jumped me and started making out with me. Was it the cologne, or was it my tight verbal game? I don’t know.
All I know is that Roadster by Cartier is one of the best smelling men’s colognes out there.
It’s particularly suited towards winter and fall due to the heavier, muskier, woody scent. If I could describe this scent in one word it would be “man.” This is definitely in my top 3 in terms of how many times women have complemented me on it. I get complements pretty much everywhere I go with this one.
And best of all, it isn’t overly sexual like Very Sexy For Him 2 is, so you can wear it in the workplace without having to worry about office politics and drama. Personally, I would recommend using this one during the winter; something about the cold air tends to make this one really pop. The smell also lasts a long time (surprisingly long) so it’s great to put on in the morning if you’re going out later that night.
And coming in at only $37.62 per bottle, it works out to roughly $2.50 per month (one bottle lasts me 15 months). All in all, this is definitely one of the best men’s colognes out there. I highly recommend it.
Best Men’s Colognes: The Final Verdict
In conclusion, I recommend all three of these scents; they each have a slightly different purpose and work great together depending on your lifestyle.
- For a fresh, cool scent that you can wear during the warmer months in any sort of situation, go with Cool Water by Davidoff.
- For a ridiculously-over-the-top sexy smell that will make women want to hug you and smell you all day long, go with Very Sexy For Him 2 (seriously it’s almost comical how much girls love this one).
- And for an incredibly masculine, musky, oak type smell that you can sport during the winter months, go with Roadster by Cartier.
All in all, these are my top 3 best men’s colognes—if you have any cologne recommendations, feel free to give them a shout out in the comments section below. I love trying new colognes and seeing which ones work the best. I hope that you guys enjoyed the article, and as always, I’ll see you next time.
Hi Jon,
I’m tall and moderately built. However, I have a quite a few acne scars on my face. I’ve undergone a few laser treatments and it does help a little but the scars are still prominent. Any advise for me on this.
Thanks!
Roadster by Cartier is no longer available. Do you have an alternate recommendation?
Very Sexy for Him 2 by Victoria’s Secret is pretty good, tbh. I’d use that one!
Three of my cost effective favorites are Lagerfeld Classic, Giorgio of Beverly Hills for men and last but not least, PS by Paul Sebastian. PS can be had very inexpensively on line and women love it.
Nice, I’ll have to try them out
