I just finished reading The 10x Rule by Grant Cardone, and I have to say, the book has been pretty life-changing.
Like most rules of success, the book is actually incredibly simple, almost deceptively so…but the implications are extremely powerful.
The whole premise behind the book is that there’s only one difference between success and failure…one small little difference in the way you think and act.
This difference is known as the 10x Rule, and if you want to be successful, you’d best take it to heart.
What is The 10x Rule?
The 10x rule is very simple, yet when you begin to understand it and apply it to your life, you’ll see incredible changes in a very short period of time. Are you ready for it? Here it is.
Whatever your goals are, make them 10x more. Whatever action you’re taking, make it 10x more. That’s it. That’s the rule.
It’s very simple, but very difficult to implement. Most guys don’t even do 1x action—they drift around through life, without any clear-cut goals or plans, and then wind up broke at age 50 and wonder where they went wrong.
For the select few that can actually take 10x action, however, your lives will change in ways you never thought possible.
[thrive_leads id=’13220′]
When you unleash the power of taking 10 times as much action, and setting 10 times higher goals, you’ll start to realize how much you can accomplish.
As many a successful men have said before: “It’s not what I did that I regret. It’s what I didn’t do that haunts me.”
Or, in the words of the immortal Tony Robbins: “The enemy of the great is the good.”
In other words, at the end of your life, what will disappoint you the MOST is that you didn’t take 10x actions. You settled for mediocrity, or even above average, but never really aimed for greatness.
The 10x Rule Exercise
If you’ve been reading my blog for a while, you should have a clear set of goals that you want to accomplish. You should have actually written them down, and put them somewhere that you’ll see them every single day.
Personally, my goals are placed right above my computer so that I see them every time I sit down to blog.
In addition to this, you should also have been taking action to achieve your goals. If your goal is to make 6 figures by next year, you should be working on a business or striving for that promotion.
If your goal is to get a girlfriend, you should be out learning game and meeting women.
If your goal is to melt away pounds of fat, you should be going to the gym and working out.
But—today I’d like to expand your mind. Let’s do an exercise together, just for the sake of opening you up to the possibilities of what you can achieve.
Ask yourself: “How can I accomplish 10 times my original goal, in 6 months?”
Seem crazy? Yeah, I thought so too, at first—but when you actually sit down and do the exercise, you’ll realize that you’re only taking about 10% of the action that you could be taking.
For example, let’s say that you have a business, and you want to make $10k a month by next year.
So, for this exercise, you’ll multiply it and ask yourself: “How can I make $100k a month in 6 months?”
Now, brainstorm ways that you could accomplish this goal, and things that you can do to speed up the process. Do this before you move on.
“Isn’t This Unrealistic?”
This is the most common form of inner resistance that people have when doing this exercise. “Isn’t this unrealistic though, Jon? There’s no way I could achieve 10x my goals in 6 months!”
Oh, really? Tell that to the fucking cleaners of the world. Tell that to kids in Russia, that went from being peasants to making millions on the internet. Tell that to the WhatsApp developers that went from being on food stamps to being worth $8 billion.
Telling yourself that something is “unrealistic,” is often times an unconscious form of self-sabotage.
When you look at what most people actually do, it becomes very clear that they could EASILY accomplish 10x their goals in 6 months.
[thrive_leads id=’13220′]
How many hours a day do you waste watching Netflix? How many hours a day do you waste doing things that aren’t helping you?
When you start to really go deep, and examine your life with an objective eye, you’ll start to realize that you’re only taking A FRACTION of the actions that you could be taking.
It’s incredible the mental gymnastics that we pull on ourselves, to avoid failure and stay within our little realities.
How to 10x Your Wealth
Let’s say, for example, that you’re a broke kid with zero income.
Usually in my examples I talk about guys that have businesses, but let’s change things up. Let’s say you’re a college kid with zero income, and you’ve got a few grand stashed away in the bank.
Ask yourself: “How can I make $5,000 a month in 6 months?” Although this may seem impossible, I assure you it’s not. It just seems that way, because it’s so far out of your reality.
But, when you start writing down things that you could do to make $5,000 a month in 6 months, you’ll start to realize just how few things you’ve actually been doing to increase your wealth. Here’s a few things you could do:
- Learn how to trade the stock market, and grow your investment funds
- Order products in bulk from China and sell them on Amazon
- Go to Garage sales and re-sell goods on eBay
- Create an eBook and launch it on the Amazon Kindle store
- Start a YouTube channel that talks about viral content
- Get into internet marketing, and split-test some ad conversion ratios
There’s literally THOUSANDS of ways that you can start to earn money as a kid, and when you actually do the math and look at what is possible, $5k a month starts to look like peanuts. There’s guys that are making that much a DAY or an HOUR that are your age.
So, ask yourself, what are some things you can do to 10x your wealth? How much action have you been taking?
Can you call 10x as many clients? Can you spend 10x as much time learning about niche marketing? Put 10x as much effort into branding, or advertising, or coming out with new products?
How to 10x Your Game
If game is currently your priority, ask yourself: “How many women are you approaching per day?” To be fair, approaching large numbers of women isn’t always possible if you live in a very rural area, but let’s assume that you do.
How many do you approach a day? 1? 3? 5? Those are rookie numbers. Some of the best pickup artists in the world approach literally 50 girls a day. No, that is not an exaggeration—that’s what it takes for them to get to an elite level.
There’s a concept known as “grinding it out to the bitter end,” which was popularized by Tyler Durden of Real Social Dynamics.
The idea was that you approach EVERYONE. You approach ugly girls, you approach hot girls, you approach mediocre girls…you do this for hours on end, until you either pull a girl you’re attracted to, or until the sun comes up.
Although this may seem extreme, if you look at Tyler’s life now, you’ll see that it’s catapulted him to MASSIVE success.
He runs a pickup company that pulls home 8 figures, he lives in a mansion in the Hollywood Hills, and he’s been to the best parties (including at the Playboy Mansion).
How did he achieve this level of success? Again—by grinding it out to the bitter end. One of these days I’m going to write an article called “A Typical Night Out For Jon,” because I don’t think guys realize how much approaching I do when I go out to improve my game.
Again, it’s 10x levels—it’s literally non-stop approaching. I open a girl, and talk to her. I open another girl, and I talk to her. I open another girl, and another, and another, and another. I just keep fucking opening until I get into the zone and can tap into that charisma.
This is the only way that you will get good with pickup. If you’re talking to 2 girls a day, sure, you’ll get good…in like 10 years.
Why not cut down the time it takes to get good, though? Cut it down by 10%. Rather than having it take 10 years to get good with women, why not cut it down to 1 year?
How to 10x Your Fitness
Most people don’t understand just how fast you can get in good shape if you REALLY put your mind to it. Most people think it takes YEARS, or even up to a DECADE to really get a lean, shredded physique.
But what if I told you, that if you REALLY tried, you could get it in just a few months? Even if you’re extremely out of shape, what if I told you that it could happen in under 6 months? Would you believe me?
Probably not. Most people, when they go on a diet, or take up a weightlifting regimen, take only 1x actions. They go to the gym a few times a week, eat an okay diet, have okay recovery…they take 10% of the action that they COULD be taking.
I’ve seen guys lost a pound a day, and sometimes two pounds a day. Yes—that’s right, you can lose weight that fast if you put your mind to it. I’ve also seen scrawny guys, myself included, put on an incredible amount of muscle, in a RIDICULOUS amount of time.
How do we do this? I’ll tell you how: we take 10x actions. We go to the gym 4-6 days a week, work our fucking asses off, have a PERFECT diet, take cold showers, supplement properly, and get ample recovery. It’s really that simple.
When we’re tempted to skip a day at the gym, what do we do? We go anyways. When we get to the gym, what do we do? We shed blood, sweat, and tears. When we get home to eat, what do we do? We follow the best diet for our goals 100% to a T. We take 10x actions.
Have you ever talked to those fatties who “just can’t seem to lose weight?” If you poke and prod, you’ll find out that they’re barely even trying. Those same people that complain about having “bad genetics,” don’t ever go to the gym, and eat junk food every day.
Are you fucking kidding me? OF COURSE you’re going to be out of shape if that’s what you do! My god, people have lost all reason! If you don’t put in the work, you won’t get the results. It’s so incredibly simple, and it baffles my mind every time I see people make excuses like this.
How to 10x Your Life
What is it that you want in life? Do you want to own a business that lets you travel the world, and work anywhere you want? Or maybe you want to get your health in order?
Do you want to become a famous actor? A singer? A writer? Maybe you want to become a world-famous scientist who cures cancer, or an inventor who creates the next big App.
Figure out what you want, set a MASSIVE goal for some time within the next 6 months, and work your fucking ass off to achieve it.
It’s literally that simple. A wise man once said to me that most people think in terms of $100’s. Then, there’s some people who think in terms of $1,000’s. The successful, though? They think in terms of millions. They don’t limit themselves, by saying that something is too unrealistic, because the truth is that it’s not.
Calling something unrealistic is just a self-imposed limitation, a form of self-sabotage. The truth is that where there’s a will, there’s a way. If you genuinely want to achieve something great, then you can do so. You just have to figure out what it is, set down a tangible goal, and work yourself to the bone over the next 6 months to achieve it.
The 10x Rule Summary
What are your 10x goals? How are you going to achieve them? Although these goals and actions that you just set may seem realistic, they’re actually very achievable.
They only SEEM unachievable, because you’ve never accomplished anything so large…but do you know what? Once you accomplish them, and make even bigger 10x goals, you’ll realize how small your current goals are.
This is the process of success—continually shattering your previous boundaries, only to find out that you haven’t even scratched the surface of your potential.
If you guys have any questions, comments, or concerns, feel free to let me know. And, as always, I’ll see you next time.
“Most guys don’t even do 1x action—they drift around through life, without any clear-cut goals or plans, and then wind up broke at age 50 and wonder where they went wrong”.
I’m going to be 50 in July …so when I read the above, it really pissed me off!! So I’m choosing to hardcore re-frame it to….” This is the year I become unstoppable!!”
Haha… YES!
That was a fuckin awesome article man, I love this website
Thanks, bro!
??????
?
Love it Jon!
Found this via Mangan’s tweet.
I also used to follow Grant unfortunatelly he tweets like too much…more than Trump lol!
I agree that setting a goal amd being obsessed is the key. Last month I obsessed into finally publishing a book. Then after a few sleepless weeks I finally published it on Createspace. After 3 days it will be available on Amazon. And anyone here btw want the free copy just let me know.
Alryt but just ONE thing I dont agree on are Cold Showers (or cryo)
Cryo is not good if your goal involves building muscle because its anti-inflamatory effects will hinder long term growth as much as NSAIDs do.
With that being said its still great for athletes and Stregth training since in that case you really wont care about hyperthropy – Cryo in this case will help you recovet faster and train more often and thus “grease the grove”.
Amen man!
Thanks, my dude! I appreciate it 🙂
Great article man. Big fan of Grant Cardone currently doing Cardone University and getting tons of value from it. I read the 10x Rule last year and it’s what inspired me to write a post every day (which morphed into 3 a day).
Originally I planned on doing a post a week like most blogs but figured I could do much better. And then did so. Since then I’ve applied it to other facets of my life including book publishing. It’s had a huge impact on what I realize I can get done and my productivity.
Agree it’s important to aim higher, very high. Because that forces you to really dig deep and pull up things that you didn’t know that you had. Set impossible goals and then throw yourself at them to try to accomplish them essentially.
Thanks man – I’ve been reading your blog a bit over the past few days and yeah, looks like you’re just churning out those products. Have you ever thought about selling through your own blog, instead of Amazon?
I agree that it’s not in the dreaming but in the doing. just one thing: Don’t forget to mention the exceptional IQ present in jews such as Mark Cuban and his well connected family.
