Top 5 Strongest Pre Workouts in 2024 (#3 Was BANNED!)

Categories:

best pre workout strongest illegal banned pre workout

Having a strong pre workout is one of the best ways to smash the gym, and get some extra gains. They’re not necessary, but they help a lot.

The right pre-workout will get you amped up to go to the gym. It’ll give you a huge surge of energy, and give you that mental focus that you need to aggressively attack the weights.

Some pre-workouts will even help you build muscle faster, recover faster, and some even help boost your testosterone levels (like Nitraflex).

As you guys know, I used to work at a supplement store—so I’ve tried dozens of pre-workouts (some of which have actually been banned, like Jack3d). I know what works and what doesn’t.

So, with that in mind, here are my top 5 strongest pre workouts currently on the market, and the effects that each one will give you.

How to Find A Good Pre Workout

best pre workouts

In general, there’s a few things that you want to look for to find the best pre workouts on the market. This is really key, so listen up.

A lot of guys make the mistake of just viewing the claims that the products label makes, or listening to their gym-buddy who heard a rumor about some pre-workout that works really well.

[thrive_leads id=’10125′]

This is a huge mistake, because marketers always lie. You have to use science when you’re trying to determine the best pre-workout. You have to look at the actual ingredient line up on the label, and ask yourself if these ingredients are backed by research or not.

A good pre-workout has a ton of benefits, like:

  • Improve Physical Performance
  • Better Exercise Endurance
  • Reduce Muscle Fatigue
  • Increased Fat Loss
  • Higher Training Potential
  • …and more

Obviously you need a good workout routine, and you need to combine your pre-workout supplement with weight training, good nutrition, and enough recovery to get the best results.

That being said, if you’re willing to put in a little bit of work, you can easily find high quality pre-workouts that cost very little, and help a ton.

Important Pre-Workout Ingredients

As I said, most advertising and marketing has one goal, and one goal only: to get you to fork over your hard earned cash. These people will promise all sorts of ridiculous things, like “10x your sport performance today!”

So, you have to actually look at the nutrition labels of pre workouts, because by US law, they have to disclose what’s in them. The FDA legally requires supplements to disclose the ingredient list, so this is what you must look at (not their hyped up marketing claims).

With that in mind, here’s a few of the best pre workout ingredients:

  • Creatine (read my Ultimate Guide to Creatine here)
  • Beta-Alanine (From 2-3 grams is ideal)
  • Caffeine (There’s multiple forms, but 150+ milligrams is ideal)
  • Vinpocetine (2-5 grams)
  • L-Citrulline (2-4 grams)
  • L-Taurine (2-3 grams)

Most decent pre workouts will have at least two or three of these ingredients, so if it doesn’t have any of them, it’s a scam.

There’s a ton of potential ingredients that you could add to a pre-workout, but the best pre workout depends on what you want.

Finding A Good Pre-Workout For Your Needs

Different pre workouts give you different effects, so you have to decide what effects you want to experience the most.

If you want crazy pumps, for example, look for pre workouts containing Citrulline and L-Arginine, both of which are clinically proven to work.

If you want intense energy, however, look for pre workouts with a lot of caffeine, Rhodiola, and maybe even some Guarana in them.

…or maybe you want laser focus? Then look for pre workouts with potent nootropics, like Vinpocetine, N-Acetyl Tyrosine, or Dimethylamine.

Do you see the point, though? Different pre-workouts will give you different effects. Keep this in mind as you look through this list.

Sure, they’ll all give you more energy, strength, and focus…but depending on which one you want more of, you’ll have to take your pick.

So, with that in mind, let’s get to it.

Gorilla Mode: #1 Best Pre Workout

gorilla mode pre workout

I recently started using this pre workout supplement, and it’s quickly becoming one of my favorite pre-workouts out there. It’s VERY strong, and VERY inexpensive.

Gorilla Mode is one of the strongest pre workouts on the market, in terms of caffeine content, stimulants, and overall formulation.

Buy Gorilla Mode!

Here’s some quick benefits of Gorilla Mode:

  • High Caffeine Content
  • Increase Energy Levels
  • Improve Muscle Strength
  • Enhance Exercise Performance

Just one serving is all you need to start, but if you’re feeling bold, you can take two servings (scoops) for the maximum effect.

Gorilla Mode Pre-Workout Ingredients

As I said before, you always want to look at the ingredients in the pre workouts you’re consuming, so you know what you’re getting.

Here’s some ingredients in a full serving of Gorilla Mode:

  • Caffeine Anhydrous (350 mg)
  • Creatine Monohydrate (5,000 mg)
  • Huperzine A (400 mcg)
  • L Citrulline (9,000 mg)

The Gorilla Mode Pre-Workout is quickly becoming my favorite pre-workout of all time, because it’s REALLY fucking strong.

I usually take Nitraflex, but after taking this stuff, I think it’s my new favorite pre-workout. It has more caffeine than Nitraflex, too.

Why I Love This Pre-Workout

Gorilla Mode is one of my favorite products on the market, which is saying a lot, because I’ve tried more supplements than I can remember.

Buy Gorilla Mode!

It’s got creatine, which has been clinically proven to increase strength, a ton of stimulants for focus and energy, and even some bioperine for added absorption and bio-availability.

All in all, if you’re looking for the strongest pre workout on the market, look no further than Gorilla Mode. It’s got a TON of caffeine, so be careful.

Nitraflex: Best Pre-Workout For Testosterone

best pre workouts gat nitraflex

Over the past year or two, pharmaceutical companies have been starting to hop on the pre-workout bandwagon, which is definitely a good thing.

Basically, what this means, is that more and more pre workouts are now being researched by actual scientists, rather than gym bros.

…and as I covered in my GAT Nitraflex review, this is one of the few pre workout supplements that has actually been clinically tested.

Buy on Amazon!

In fact, according to a research, one of the ingredients in Nitraflex called calcium fructopyronase borate, can increase testosterone by 28%. [1]

The benefits don’t stop there, though. It’s a great pre-workout for overall endurance, focus, energy, and mental clarity in the gym.

Here are some benefits of Nitraflex:

  • Increased Energy
  • Improved Performance
  • Better Endurance
  • Backed by Research

Nitraflex has a ton of awesome benefits, and will help you perform at your very best in the gym. It’s available on Amazon for just $32 per container.

GAT Nitraflex Pre-Workout Ingredients

GAT Nitraflex is an awesome supplement to take before you smash the gym, because it’s got a ton of pharma-grade ingredients backed by research.

Here’s some ingredients in one serving of Nitraflex:

  • Caffeine Anhydrous (325 mg Per Scoop)
  • Citrulline Malate (Increases Energy)
  • Beta Alanine (Improves Endurance
  • L Arginine (Improves Blood Flow to Muscles)
  • L Theanine (Green Tea Extract)

Nitraflex is one of my most trusted pre workouts, and I’ve been using it for years now. It never fails to improve my exercise capacity.

Buy on Amazon!

Just one serving is all you need—one scoop is more than enough to jack your energy, endurance, and focus through the roof, my friend.

In summary, this is a great supplement that has awesome ingredients, all linked to improved muscle strength, performance, and energy.

Beyond Raw Lit: Top Nootropics Pre-Workout

beyond raw lit best pre workouts

While Beyond Raw LIT won’t give you the sheer laser focus that Jack3d will give you, it’s still one of the best pre workouts on the market.

Why? I’ll tell you why—because of its emphasis on brain-boosting ingredients, known as “nootropics,” or smart drugs.

As I covered in my Beyond Raw LIT review, it’s got a powerful lineup of brain-boosting drugs, shown to enhance focus, memory, and mood.

This is a great pre workout supplement for anyone who wants more energy and focus, but doesn’t want to be too overwhelmed.

Beyond Raw Lit Ingredients

Overall, beyond raw lit is one of my favorite products on the market, not just due to the energy you’ll get from it, but due to its ingenuity.

If you look at the ingredients, you’ll see that they actually put some best, most powerful nootropics in it, to enhance focus and mental clarity.

It’s got a good bit of caffeine, some beta alanine for pumps, some creatine monohydrate, and best of all, some brain-enhancing drugs.

Here’s what’s in one serving of Beyond Raw Lit:

  • Caffeine Anhydrous (250 mg)
  • Beta Alanine (3.2 grams)
  • Creatine Monohydrate (1.5 grams)
  • Neuro Factor (100 mg per serving)
  • ElevATP (150 mg)

Overall, this is a great supplement that doesn’t have as much caffeine as many others do, but still has enough to give you some energy.

The main two ingredients that intrigue me are neuro factor and ElevATP, which are two powerful extracts proven to enhance your brain.

Neuro Factor is a particular type of whole bean coffee extract, that’s loaded with antioxidants and is even linked to overall brain health.

ElevATP, on the other hand, is an extract from several adaptogenic mushrooms, which have incredible mind-boosting effects.

When I take Beyond Raw LIT, my brain lights up like a Christmas tree, and I’m ready to conquer the gym, smash the weights, and build muscle.

Don’t take my word for it, though. It’s available on Amazon for $39 and there’s a ton of awesome flavors. I prefer the fruit punch, though.

Jack3d: Strongest Pre-Workout On The Market

jack3d banned pre workout

Ah, Jack3d by USP Labs. Some call it the holy grail of banned pre-workouts, and others cower in fear of its awesome, meth-like powers.

The FDA, though? As I stated in my Jack3d review, they banned it in 2012, because it was just too damn strong for the masses to handle.

It contained an ingredient called DMAA, which was drastically improving the exercise performance of dozens of users across the country.

BUT, it also came with a ton of side effects. People who took two or more doses in a day would often have heart palpitations, or even die.

Don’t worry—this isn’t the illegal version, it’s a newly formulated version that’s still extremely effective. This is personally one of my favorite pre-workouts for laser focus, tunnel vision, and an overall good mood.

As a side note, it’s very hard to find a trusted source that can sell this stuff—every now and then you’ll see it on Amazon, but it gets taken down.

Jack3d Pre-Workout Ingredients

Overall, the new Jack3d actually doesn’t have that much caffeine. But, what it lacks for here, it makes up for in other extracts and ingredients.

Here’s some ingredients in one serving of Jack3d:

  • Caffeine (100 mg per serving)
  • Creatine Matrix (Patented Blend)
  • Rhodiola Rosea Extract (For Energy)
  • Yohimbe Bark Extract (For Focus)
  • Schisandra Berry Extract (Also For Energy)

This pre-workout has a good dose of caffeine, a large amount of Yohimbine, and best of all: two herbal extracts shown to enhance focus… A LOT.

The first of which is Schisandra Chinensis, a vine native to Eastern Russia, which has been shown to effectively fight stress, fatigue, and depression, while simultaneously boosting your focus, mood, and energy levels.

The second of which, is Rhodiola Rosea, an arctic herb which has been proven to enhance endurance, mental clarity, and good emotions.

It’s also got a highly bio-available form of creatine, which will lead to greater strength, a nice dose of beta alanine, which will give you crazy pumps, and best of all? It tastes just like Kool-aid.

Overall, Jack3d is probably the best pre-workout supplement for sheer laser-focus on the market. It’s hard to find though, so be careful.

Pre-Jym: Best Pre-Workout For Sustained Energy

pre jym review

This is probably the best pre-workout for sustained energy, due to the powerful list of ingredients shown to reduce fatigue.

I wrote a full review of Pre Jym covering the cost, ingredients, best source, serving size analysis, and more, but here’s the summary.

Overall, Pre Jym is a good pre-workout supplement for anyone that wants a ton of amino acids, with a good dose of caffeine for energy.

This supplement was also formulated by Dr. Jim Stoppani, who has a PhD in exercise physiology, so you know it’s made by a trusted individual.

Pre Jym is one of the best products for improving muscle endurance, boosting fat loss, and having more energy for your workout routine.

If you workout early in the morning, I HIGHLY recommend Pre Jym, because it will help you remain productive throughout the day.

Pre Jym Ingredients

Right off the bat, this is one of those supplements that has a great dose of caffeine (300 mg), which is great for enhancing performance.

Here’s what’s in one dose of Pre Jym:

  • Caffeine Anhydrous (300 mg per scoop)
  • Creatine HCL (2,000 mg per scoop)
  • Citrulline Malate (6 grams per scoop)
  • Beta Alanine (2,000 mg per scoop)
  • Black Pepper Extract (5 mg per scoop)
  • …and much more

The ingredient profile per serving is off the charts for this supplement, especially considering the cost when compared to other products.

Pre Jym will help improve your exercise performance, help increase energy, improve exercise strength, muscle endurance, and much more.

It’s a great source of amino acids as well. In fact, it’s probably the best source of amino acids out of all the supplements in this list.

In my opinion, Pre Jym is hands down the most effective pre-workout for sustained energy in the gym, and improved recovery afterwards.

Common Pre Workout Questions

Pre workout supplements can be confusing, especially for newbies who know nothing about ingredients, doses, and everything else.

So, I’ve compiled a list of the top pre workout questions that I get on a regular basis. If you think I left something out, let me know!

What’s The Strongest Pre Workout?

In my opinion, the Gorilla Mode pre-workout is the strongest pre workout on the market.. I take it almost every day I go to the gym.

Whenever I take Gorilla Mode, it’s like a fucking freight train hits my mind and body, and I’m LASER focused in the gym.

Sometimes, if I want to break through some PR’s, I’ll also combine it with Adderall (I have a prescription) or .

What Do You Think of C4 Pre Workout?

As I said in my C4 pre workout review, I think it’s pretty much just bunk.

It isn’t necessarily that it’s BAD, per say… it just isn’t great.

The only thing great about C4 is its marketing. The ingredients are mediocre, and so is the high.

What’s The Highest Caffeine Pre Workout?

In my experience, 5150 has the most caffeine out of any pre workout I’ve ever tried. Just one scoop has 470 fucking milligrams of caffeine.

To put that in perspective, the FDA recommends you don’t take ANYMORE than 300mg of caffeine per day. So, this stuff is basically like legal meth.

This stuff literally has the highest caffeine content that I’ve ever seen in a pre workout before, and I’ve tried at least a hundred at this point.

What’s The Strongest Pump Pre Workout?

In my experience, Vasoblitz is the best pump pre workout. It will give you vein-splitting, artery popping pumps like you’ve never had before.

Seriously. This stuff is by far the most intense pre workout supplement if you want to get your pump on. You’ll never be satisfied with anything else.

Keep in mind though, that it’s a non-stimulant pre workout. So, if you want some extra energy, consider combining it with caffeine or something.

What’s The Best High Stim Pre Workout?

I don’t even know if I should be saying this or not, because this shit is literally the highest stimulant pre workout you will ever try.

…and no, not in a good way. Just one scoop of Stim Lord, and I literally felt like my heart was going to explode (and I have a high tolerance).

If you’re a freaking meth addict who wants the most intense, focused, stim crazy pre workout of all time, though? You just might want to give it a try.

Want A Full Bodybuilding Blueprint?

In summary, these are some of the best pre-workouts that I’ve ever taken.

Like I said though, you don’t need pre-workouts to gain muscle or have a great workout. But, with that in mind, they certainly help a ton.

If you want a full bodybuilding guide, that covers weightlifting, nutrition, and supplements, consider checking out Body of an Alpha.

It lays out EXACTLY what you need to do, if you want to get that lean, shredded physique, that turns heads at the beach.

In fact, here’s some of what you’ll get with Body of an Alpha:

Frequently Asked Questions
❓ Which Pre Workout Supplement is the Best?

The best pre workout will vary depending on your needs. The best pre workout for energy, for example, would be Gorilla Mode or Stim Lord, due to their high caffeine content. The best pre workout for men overall would be Nitraflex, due to the testosterone boosting ingredients.

❓ Is There A Safe Pre Workout Supplement?

The FDA recommends no more than 400mg of caffeine per day, so any pre workout powder that has less caffeine than this is generally considered to be safe. Of course, if you have an underlying health condition, especially one of the heart, it may be best to take a stimulant-free pre workout, or to even just avoid them altogether.

❓ Which Supplement is Best For Gym Beginners?

As a gym beginner, the best thing to do is simply focus on eating a good diet, recovering properly, and following a good workout routine. If you want, you can also try taking one of the top rated pre workout powders like Nitraflex or Gorilla Mode, to get an extra boost in the gym.

❓ Which is Better - A Pre or Post Workout Supplement?

Neither a pre workout or post workout supplement is "better" than the other, they're simply different. A pre workout supplement is meant to give you a lot of energy for the gym, to lift more weights with more intensity. A post workout supplement is usually filled with protein and BCAA's to help you recover faster.

Jon, here’s a question: is DMAA unsafe and that is why Jack3d was banned or was it just because of the overall formulation of different ingredients interacting with each other? I ask because Rat’s Army just released their liquid dropper bottles of pure DMAA and it sounds tempting, but if the item will result in palpitations and is illegal, it might not be worth the hassle.
